“NORD JOY” (IMO 9814179)

Singapore, June 10, 2022

On May 26 2022, at 1430 LT, the tanker “NORD JOY” (IMO 9814179) anchored in a position in the South China Sea that was thought to be clear of Indonesian territorial waters. The Indonesian Navy boarded the vessel on May 30, 2022, alleging that the ship was in Indonesian territorial waters. The Master was ordered to heave anchor and proceed towards Bintan Naval Base before relocating to Batam Naval Base Anchorage, where the vessel dropped anchor at 1630 hrs LT on May 31, 2022, and remains.

Synergy Group and the crew of the “NORD JOY” are continuing to give all possible cooperation to the Indonesian Navy and other local authorities in their investigations.

Synergy Group, managers of the tanker, wish to make it clear that they are not aware of any demands for money by the Indonesian Navy in relation to the release of the vessel.
