The Founder and Executive Chairman of Synergy Marine Group, Capt. Unni’s illustrious maritime career spans more than 30 years. Renowned for his innovative and forward-thinking leadership on sustainability, diversity and technology, and his ability to forge thought and technical partnerships with like-minded companies. A passionate marathoner, Captain Unni is vocal supporter of shipping’s net zero emissions ambition by 2050. He is a leading business creator, committed family man and determined philanthropist.

Capt. Govind Azhakath

After 18 years at sea, with the last five in command, Govind’s experience ashore includes consulting P&I Clubs, banks and regulatory authorities. A Synergian since 2011, he now heads the Kochi office, overseeing operations and QHSE, and loves the determination, camaraderie and collective responsibility that he finds everywhere in the Group. Overseas travel and cuisine echo a very varied seafaring life, and for a gold medalist crackshot following cricket still comes second to shooting.

Joseph Peter

Now a Fleet and also Technical Manager at Synergy, Joseph had served 20 years at sea on general cargo ships, bulk and timber carriers and passenger vessels. He joined Synergy as a Technical Superintendent in 2011 and firmly believes that his excellent relationships with colleagues are due to the welcoming workplace environment. Joseph enjoys travelling, serving his local community and long-distance running.

Capt. Kushal Bhattacharyya

Kushal’s seafaring career spans 35 years, and since 2016 he has been a Marine Manager in Synergy’s bulk carrier operations. He cherishes his time at Synergy, where his daily work is demanding and thoroughly enjoyable, in a vibrant atmosphere with outstanding team cooperation. Sports, music and watching documentaries are Kushal’s favourite pastimes, and he is an ardent Manchester City fan.

Suresh P Kurup

Presently heading the team at Synergy Cochin, Suresh has about sixteen years of maritime service on bulk carriers, tankers, chemical tankers, containers, and LNGs. He also has four years of new building experience, and has worked with Synergy since 2010. Suresh finds Synergy’s open and amicable work atmosphere both inspiring and progressive. He is an avid traveller and gardening enthusiast.

Vivek Jain

Vivek began his career with Synergy in 2014 as a Technical Superintendent and has served as the company’s Technical Manager since 2020. He spent 16 years at sea as a Marine Engineer, working on gas and bulk carriers. He believes Synergy’s team spirit has brought out the best in him, personally and professionally. Vivek relaxes through long walks and badminton.

Synergy Marine Group is a member of The Getting to Zero Coalition, dedicated to launching zero-emission deep-sea vessels by 2030 and achieving full decarbonisation by 2050. The Global Maritime Forum, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum and Friends of Ocean Action, founded and manages the Coalition.

Synergy Marine Group is a part of INTERCARGO, an association championing safe, efficient, and eco-friendly shipping. INTERCARGO collaborates with the International Maritime Organization and other global entities to shape maritime legislation.

IMEC

Synergy Marine Group is part of IMEC, a top maritime employers’ group championing fair and sustainable labor practices. Representing global employers, IMEC negotiates seafarers’ wages and conditions, and invests in workforce development.

IMPA

Synergy Marine Group is involved in IMPA Save’s initiative to reduce single-use water bottles at sea. The IMPA SAVE council comprises top global shipowners and suppliers, representing over 8000 vessels with significant combined purchasing influence.

All Aboard

Synergy Marine Group is a key participant in The All Aboard Alliance’s Diversity@Sea initiative. As one of eleven prominent maritime companies, we aim to foster inclusivity at sea and directly address challenges faced by women seafarers.
