Tackling Maritime Corruption: A Dialogue

9th December marks the United Nation’s International Anti-Corruption Day, and its theme of “Your right, your role: Say no to corruption” highlights the rights and responsibilities of everyone in tackling this scourge.

Tackling Maritime Corruption

Our CEO Captain Rajesh Unni, who is also on the Executive Board of The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network got together with the MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company COO Claudio Bozzo and Marcus Hand, Editor of Sea trade Maritime to give combined insight into the fight against corruption in the maritime industry, from the perspectives of a leading shipowner and a leading ship manager.

Both MSC and Synergy Marine Group are of course members of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network, which is a global business network of over 140 companies seeking fair trade all around and a maritime industry free of corruption. A pre-eminent example of collective anti-corruption action, the MACN shares best practices, raises awareness of the challenges, implements its own Anti-Corruption Principles and collaborates with governments, NGOs and the wider society to tackle the root causes of corruption and create a culture of integrity.

Captain Unni said “The UN SDGs provide us with an important and compelling framework of targets that I believe can help us all build a more resilient and sustainable maritime industry. Fighting against corruption is central to those aims. It is a great honor to step up our work with the MACN, which brings together so many people and organizations committed to the common goal of ridding our industry of corruption.”
