Green fleet Methanol ready Oil Tanker Chinook I

At Synergy Marine Group we take great pride in managing some of the most advanced and environmentally responsible vessels operating today, and we are pleased to announce that Synergy Navis Marine Pvt Ltd has assumed full technical management of the 18,640 DWT chemical/oil products tanker “CHINOOK I”.

Designed for environmental efficiency and operational resilience, the “CHINOOK I” has been built to excel in challenging maritime environments while advancing global decarbonisation, and this addition to the managed fleet strengthens our longstanding partnership with owners Union Maritime and charterers Cargill International.

A New Standard in Sustainable Shipping

Inspired by the transformative energy of the Chinook winds, this newbuild embodies next-generation vessel design that prioritises performance and sustainability. Delivered from China’s Fujian Southeast Shipyard, the vessel is methanol dual fuel-ready, ICE-class certified and coated with marine line protection—all of which ensure optimal operational efficiency in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.

The “CHINOOK I” is equipped with cutting-edge technologies designed to minimise emissions, noise pollution and energy consumption, including:

– Controllable pitch propellers for fuel efficiency and improved manoeuvrability

– A Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, significantly reducing NOx emissions

– Shaft power generation, enabling improved energy efficiency during operations

– Shore power compatibility, reducing onboard emissions while in port

Future-Proofing Crews for Advanced Vessel Operations

The “CHINOOK I” is more than just a technological milestone – she is also a training platform for the future of shipping. As vessels become more complex with the integration of alternative fuels, digital systems and automation, crew preparedness is essential to ensure safety and efficiency.

Synergy has made seafarer training a strategic priority, investing heavily in simulation-based learning, digitalisation and competency-building programmes. The crew operating the “CHINOOK I” has undergone rigorous training in:

– Methanol fuel handling and dual fuel engine operations

– Advanced emissions control systems, including SCR technology and energy efficiency measures

– Digital monitoring tools and data-driven maintenance practices

– Arctic and low-temperature operations for ICE-class vessels

– Emergency response protocols tailored to next-generation fuel technologies

By integrating future-proofing maritime training into our vessel management strategy, we are preparing seafarers for the industry’s rapid transition to greener shipping solutions. Our training initiatives not only improve operational performance but also enhance safety and crew confidence in handling alternative fuel-ready vessels.

Commitment to a Sustainable Maritime Future

As the global shipping industry accelerates its transition towards lower-carbon and zero-emission solutions, vessels like the “CHINOOK I” represent a critical step forward in sustainable fleet transformation. Our commitment to operational excellence, environmental responsibility and crew empowerment ensures that every vessel under our management is equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving maritime landscape.

We extend our best wishes to Captain Mahavir Singh, Chief Engineer Arun Kumar and the entire crew as the “CHINOOK I” sets sail on her journey, very significantly contributing to a greener and more sustainable shipping industry.
