GENCO MARY crew led by Capt. Subrato Ghosh and Chief Engineer Pardeep Singh after successfully rescuing six persons from a distressed sailing vessel at sea

On 22 April 2026, the Synergy-managed Ultramax GENCO MARY responded to a request from MRCC Finisterre to assist in a search and rescue operation. A sailing vessel had taken on water, with six persons in need of recovery.

Conditions at the Scene

GENCO MARY immediately altered course for the reported position. Sea state at the scene was marginal — strong winds, swell of 3.5 to 4 metres, and reduced visibility that made locating persons in open water particularly difficult.

Recovery and Care

Recovery required precise ship-handling and tight coordination across bridge, deck and engine room, sustained throughout the operation. Under the leadership of Capt. Subrato Ghosh and Chief Engineer Pardeep Singh, the crew recovered all six persons and brought them safely aboard.

Food, water, dry clothing and basic medical checks were provided. The rescued persons were subsequently transferred to the relevant authorities, after which GENCO MARY resumed her voyage.

MRCC Finisterre Commendation

Following the operation, MRCC Finisterre issued a letter of appreciation to the Master and crew of GENCO MARY. The letter thanked the vessel for its help and collaboration, noted the crew’s high professionalism and good seamanship, and stated that GENCO MARY’s contribution to the operation was essential to its successful outcome.
