The inaugural Synergy and Philippine Accessible Disability Services (“PADS”) Half Marathon, and many other events, took place on Sunday 10 November 2019. Hailed as a great success, both generally and in terms of diversity and inclusion, the occasion was held at the SM City Cebu Grounds. It was supported by local government units and raised funds in aid of PADS Adaptive Sports and Recreational Rehabilitation Centres.
A very great many supporters of PWDs*, including the Vice Mayor of Cebu, took part in events including the PADS classified 21K, 21K Deaf, 12K, 6K, 3K Deaf, 3K Crutch, 1K Wheelchair and 1K Blind-Tandem. As well as fundraising, the day also helped with awareness of the importance of inclusion of people with disabilities, and in celebration of the uniqueness of each one of us.
Our very own Capt. Krish joined the tandem race and the Admin Department’s Ms. Jessa Marie Tajanlangit ran in the 12K category. Eric Chipsirror bagged the men’s 12K title with a time of 41:30, with locals Florendo Lapis a very creditable second and Michael Largo a very narrow third. Andrin Cherry won the women’s 12K, coming in at 55:05, followed by Villarin Evamie at 56:47.
*PWD is a common abbreviation for People With Disabilities. The view at Synergy is that everyone is good at something, and all should have the opportunity to participate and contribute accordingly.
