Marine Advanced Simulation and Training (MAST) is a state-of-the-art training center with experienced faculty. Established in 2014 as a joint venture between Synergy and MOL, the centre handles all training requirements of seafarers from the regulatory aspects and industry best practice guidelines.

The centre offers a blend of classroom and simulator-based training, apart from the ship-specific familiarization training for all seafarers on a self-learning platform.

Training related interventions take place at various levels of competence based on industry and Owner requirements; with training courses and curriculum adapted to attain a higher proficiency level among the seagoing staff.

Training courses are not just aimed at our seagoing staff, with continuous professional development courses for Superintendents also being delivered in line with desired competence standards.

A Full Mission Integrated Bridge Simulator capable of recreating any navigational scenario helps officers master ship handling skills. The training centre regularly conducts company specific courses in Bridge Team and Bridge Resource Management (BTM & BRM) apart from specific command orientation courses where future Masters are evaluated by assessors as well as psychometrists.

Our holistic assessments help Manning and Operation teams to manage postings for enhanced operational efficiency in the interpersonal domain.

The training team has successfully created and delivered bespoke ship handling simulator courses to train officers in large vessel handling (containers and VLCC’s) and also navigating into and out of ports with high tidal ranges and navigational limitations.

An advanced Engine Room simulator trains engineers in efficient and safe operations of machinery and improves their emergency response. These interventional courses are mandatory for our sailing staff before they take up duties for the first time as independent watchkeeping engineers and before taking up duties as a Chief Engineer.

Challenges of cargo handling and planning cargo operations are delivered in an advanced Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator. The centre currently has an Aframax, an IMO Type II chemical carrier, a refrigerated gas carrier, an LNG Membrane simulator and a VLCC cargo simulator software dovetailed to work on the same hardware. Cargo Handling training is conducted for all types of ships with company-specific deliverables, with advanced chemical and gas carrier courses.

The significant achievement in imparting specific training was in the development and delivery of a DNVGL approved bespoke training course for Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLEC) incorporating learning outcomes into both the LPG and LNG simulators. The training centre has so far trained 200+ officers and engineers in this particular course itself. This course has helped our seafarers to take up and deliver operational and safety excellence in a first-of-the-kind modern ships.

Apart from a generic ECDIS Simulator, our training center is equipped with type-specific ECDIS modules of all major ECDIS manufacturers, providing a one-stop solution to all training needs.

The training centre has handled the training requirements of Owners since inception in 2014, catering to the constantly changing regulatory requirements and industry best practices. On an average, training is conducted for about 300 seafarers each month round the year.

At MAST, training is not about compliance; it is about honing the skills and developing positive attitudes.
