Nominated for the ‘Shipping company of the Year’ by International Seafarers’ Welfare Assistance Network (ISWAN)
The International Seafarers’ WelfareAwards are now in their fifth year and are going from strength to strength. The lives of seafarers and the difficult, demanding work they do remain hidden from most people, despite the critical role they play in our everyday lives in bringing goods and commodities to our shores. ISWAN is working with others in the maritime industry to change this, and we look forward to celebrating and highlighting theInternational Maritime Organization (IMO) Day of the Seafarer on 25 June. Our primary aim is to improve the welfare services on which hundreds of thousands of seafarers relyevery year.
These are challenging times, with seafarers finding it increasingly difficult to access welfare facilities and services because of short turnaround times, lack of transport, and restrictions on shore leave. On top of this, many welfare centers are struggling because of a lack of funding. That’s why it is so important to recognize the companies, ports, unions, and seafarer centers who prioritize the welfare of seafarers. Our awards matter. They acknowledge those who go out of their way to promote the dignity and wellbeing of seafarers all over the world – and we hope they inspire others to make greater efforts to make seafarers’ lives better. The awards would not be possible without the generosity of the ITF Seafarers’ Trust, which has funded them from the start. We also thank our sponsors: Inmarsat (headline), Wrist Ship Supply(Seafarer Centre of the Year), Garrets (ShippingCompany of the Year), and the international chamber of Shipping (ICS) (Dr. Dierk LindemannWelfare Personality of the Year Award – Individuals and Organisations). We are very grateful to the IMO and its Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu for hosting the awards
